Special Abilities

Bolster the Swarm (Su): This psychic ability allows the Overseer to improve the will saves of all the Arachnids within a 200 foot range of the creature by +4, and it also removes any mental conditions such as stunned, shaken, and so on. This is a full round action and the creature must concentrate each round to maintain it. If the concentration fails, the Arachnids in the area of effect will revert to their usual Will save. The Overseer can maintain this indefinitely, as long as it can concentrate, but it can only be used once per day once it has dropped the bolster effect.

Fear Aura (Su): The Overseer generates an aura of absolute terror. Other Arachnids are immune to the effect, but non-arachnids must make a Will save (DC 18) or become shaken for 1d6 rounds. This is a constant ability and can be supressed by the Overseer if it so desires.

Hardened Survivor (Ex): The Overseer arachnid is completely immune to poisons and radiation, and it is able to withstand extreme conditions, even utter vacuum. Whenever the beast must make a saving Fortitude saving throw when dealing with environmental conditions, it gains a +10.

Healing goo (Ex): Once every 3 rounds, the Overseer is capable of regurgitating a vile-looking substance. If placed upon the wounds of any arachnid, or if ingested by the arachnid, the goo will instantly heal 8d8 hit points of damage. If ingested by any non-vermin or non-arachnid, this is a powerful toxin, which will instantly cause 8d8 points of damage. The ingester is allowed a Fort save for half damage.

Telepathic Communication (Ex): The Overseer is able to telepathically speak with any creature within its line of sight. This bypasses the need to be able to speak or understand any language. This can be used at will.

 

Thinkers are not always available to help the swarm during invasions or battles. As such the Overseer was created. This arachnid is powerful in its own right, but does not possess the same psionic abilities as the Thinker.

The creature is massive, being over 15 feet in length, and can easily weigh 8 tons. It has plates of armor, but they are not as thick, nor as strong as that of most other arachnids, although they do provide excellent protection. The creature has six powerful claws, which it can use in combat quite effectively, or use for locomotion when not in the air. A set of four large insectoid wings protrude from the back of the huge vermin, which can be folded beneath the carapace when not in use. The creature is also earthy-tone in coloration, which does not change, no matter the terrain it is fighting in.

The Overseer is able to act as a command and control unit, and has a telepathic link to any overseers within 1,000 miles. It can easily pass along orders or instructions to the Arachnid forces that it is in command of, working as a conduit for the thinker.

Unlike the Thinker, this unit is also capable of defending itself in combat. It can slash with its deadly claws, gaining multiple attacks every round, and if the battle appears to be going against it, the Overseer can take to the air in order to flee or gain the advantage.

The creature also has the ability to regurgitate a foul-looking substance, which when consumed or placed upon the wounds of any arachnid, can cause near-instantaneous regeneration, getting them back in the fight.

Unlike other arachnids, the Overseer is intelligent, and is fully capable of communicating with other intelligent beings – although typically it does not bother, seeing all other creatures as being beneath the Arachnid race.
