Special Abilities

Alien Archive (Ex) Your vast experience makes identifying new creatures easier for you. Double your operative’s edge bonus to your skill checks when identifying a creature and its abilities. If you successfully identify a creature, you gain a +2 enhancement bonus to your skill check when you make a trick attack against that creature.

Debilitating Trick (Ex) When you hit an enemy with a trick attack, you can make the creature flat-footed or off-target until the beginning of your next turn. You might learn exploits that grant you additional options for your debilitating trick, but you can select only one option each time you hit with a trick attack.

Evasion (Ex) If you succeed at a Reflex save against an effect that normally has a partial effect on a successful save, you instead suffer no effect. You gain this benefit only when unencumbered and wearing light armor or no armor, and you lose the benefit when you are helpless or otherwise unable to move.

Ever Vigilant (Ex) You’ve been on enough solo missions to know that you can’t let your guard down, even while sleeping. You take no penalties to Perception checks for being asleep, though you still can’t succeed at purely visual Perception checks while asleep. You can always act on the surprise round, though if you choose to do so when you would otherwise be surprised, you use your initiative result or the initiative result of the first creature that would have surprised you – 1, whichever is lower.

Inoculation (Ex) You’ve trained to resist various chemical and biological weapons, toxins, and pathogens you come across in the course of your missions. You add your operative’s edge bonus to Fortitude saves against poison and disease.

Quick Movement (Ex) As long as you are unencumbered and wearing light armor or no armor, your land speed increases by 10 feet. At 9th level, your land speed instead increases by 20 feet, and at 15th level, your land speed instead increases by 30 feet.

Racial Traits

Ability Adjustments: +2 Str, +2 Int, -2 Cha

Hit Points: 7

Size and Type: Ancestrals are large humanoids.

Low Light vision: Ancestrals possess low-light vision out to 60 ft.

Passionate When enraged or utterly calm, the Ancestrals are difficult to deal with.  This gives them a +4 racial bonus to Bluff and Diplomacy (when calm) and intimidate skill checks (when enraged).

Tech Savvy: The Ancestrals are quite adept at using technology. They gain a +2 racial bonus to computers, engineering and life sciences.

The race known as the Ancestrals have many different names, typically bestowed upon them by various races they have encountered. They are known as the Engineers, Pilots, Gods, Space Jockeys, Ossians or Mala'kak.

Physical Description

The average specimen of the species stands at around three meters in height and are approximately two hundred kilograms in weight, but as with all species, the height and weight will vary from individual to individual. They are completely bald, and possess no body hair anywhere, and the flesh is a milky hue in coloration with veins visible beneath the surface. The eyes are large and expressive, although some have described them as being utterly soulless. The eyes are typically black or dark brown, with very little variation in coloration, and have strange, plus shaped irises.

Society and Alignment

There is little known about the culture of the species, although it appears to be a caste-based culture, with a hierarchy – workers, technicians, mechanics and the like being the bottom of the ladder, with the military being middle ground, and finally scientists, medical, scholars and researchers being the top of the caste system.

From what has been gleaned, they have great appreciation for the arts – music, all manner of physical art such as painting and sculpting and the like. The language is very complex, and difficult for non-natives to understand, let alone speak or read. The language uses hieroglyphs which are very similar to what is found in Egypt, Mesoamerica, and other locations found on a startling number of planets across the galaxy.

Relations

Many races, particularly the human race, share upwards of 99.9 % of their DNA with these humanoids. This is because billions of years in the past, the race used their own to seed various developing planets with their own DNA, allowing the species to spread across the galaxy. Minor mutations occurred in the DNA, which allowed in the slight differences between various humanoids found, while other planets grew perfect genetic copies, which were eventually discovered and integrated into the collective society.

Oddly enough, many of the groups encountered are exceptionally hostile towards humanoids of all types, and often wage war against the species discovered. It is speculated that the Ancestrals see the other humanoids as failures, since they did not evolve into the perfect species as was the intent.

If this is the case, the leaders of the main Ancestral worlds are not speaking. They are more interested in simply culling the inferior or failed sub-species their experiments or their engineering created.

When they are not on a genocidal rampage against other humanoids, and will actually speak to those they consider to be inferior, they are strangely soft-spoken and well mannered. They are an emotional species and are quick to anger and will often attack at the slightest provocation. When they fight they are vicious, and will often roar in rage while dealing death to those who have offended them.

History

Having explored the Galaxy, the race has spent billions of years seeding various planets in the cosmos with their own genetic material, allowing the rise of the many different types of humanoids found in all corners. They possess incredible technology, which seem to defy all laws of tech and magic combined.  The technology also appears to be biological based, as the ships, armor, and even the weapons they use appear to be organic in nature, as if they had been grown.

Colonies of these humanoids are almost a diametric opposite. The homes, even the structures, appear to be almost primitive in comparison to other species. They use native materials such as mud, stone, and plant life in the construction.  There is a major exception however.  Their main government, scientific, military structures, manufacturing and star port facilities have the same organic ‘grown’ appearance as their main technology.

There has been a great deal of speculation that they are the race responsible for the creation of the hated and feared Xenomorphs. This has arisen from at least one instance where an Ancestral crashed and was subsequently discovered to be Xenomorph eggs. The crew which discovered the ship were wiped out, except for a lone survivor.  The few times diplomatic relations have been established with the species, the Ancestrals have vehemently denied they were responsible for the creation of the creatures.
