Special Abilities

Diving slash (Ex): The Shooter can dive at any target, and can move up to twice its normal movement rate. The creature cannot make any turns while attempting this maneuver. The creature will gain a +2 to hit with its claws and the damage is increased to 2d6+7 if the slash succeeds. This requires a full round action to complete.

Evasion (Ex): Whenever the Shooter is subjected to a reflex save to avoid half damage; it will automatically avoid all damage upon a successful save.

Hardened Survivor (Ex): The Shooter is completely immune to poisons and radiation, and it is able to withstand extreme conditions, even utter vacuum. Whenever the beast must make a saving Fortitude saving throw when dealing with environmental conditions, it gains a +10.

Spike Barrage (Ex): As a full round action, the Shooter can fire a volley of spikes what will strike a 20 ft. area. All targets in the area are allowed a Ref save (DC 14) or suffer 1d6+7 points of damage. A successful reflex save halves the damage.  The Arachnid can use this attack only once every two rounds. The attack has a range increment of 100 ft.

The shooter Arachnid is another version which has been adapted to fly. It is significantly larger than the typical flyer, although it does have the same overall shape common to most arachnids. The head is somewhat different, being a bit larger than most Arachnids, but the mandibles are smaller, and as such the bite is not quite as powerful. It does have strong front claws which it can use like the rest of the species, and when it is on the ground it attacks with great gusto.

For the most part, the creatures attack from the air, staying airborne and launching volleys of deadly spikes. Unlike a single strike, the creature launches enough spikes to cover a small area, typically hitting most of the targets. The creatures can only use this once every second round however, and sometimes, they will land after they have launched their volley and get up close and personal with enemy targets.

As is the case with the vast, vast majority of the Arachnids, these creatures have no real sense of self, and will attack relentlessly, until they or their enemy target cease to function. They also do not care if there are other arachnids in the area they are attacking with their spike barrage, they will fire into the area hitting everything and anything in the way. After all, the bugs can easily be replaced at the hive.

These creatures do not care for the other flyer Arachnids, and actively push them out of the way if not outright attacking them. As such the Thinkers tend to keep these specific Arachnids away from the usual swarm, unless it is a massive attack, where they can keep the two types separate.

I would like to give a special shout-out to Lloyd Calvin for helping me with this work! Thanks bud!
