The dreaded polkadot bag of tricks is made from bright white silk canvas decorated in multicolored dots. The bag’s opening is embellished with an ostentatious frill, and its multicolored drawstrings are adorned with red rubber balls. The interior of the bag smells of popcorn, sweets, and the mingled scents of a milling crowd and performing animals. Reaching inside the bag reveals an object made from crumpled carnival tickets, gum, and greasepaint.
