‘City Builder’ Platinum Edition Kickstarter Update #4: ‘Observatory’ Unlocked!

Michael O. Varhola

Day four of our Kickstarter campaign for a "Platinum Edition" of Skirmisher Publishing’s City Builder: A Guide to Designing Communities started off slowly but then had a spike of very promising activity late in the evening that unlocked our fourth Stretch Goal! Thanks to those who decided to back this project and take it to the next level.

* When we hit $7,000 we unlocked the Observatory, a new scholarly place that will be written by William T. Thrasher, who has become especially noted as a developer of material for Mythos horror games like Cthulhu Live. Knowing if the stars are right for launching quests, understanding constellations, and interpreting astrological phenomena are among the things that might lead characters to visit observatories of various sorts and we are looking forward to getting him started on this entry devoted to them.

* We are now closing in on our next Stretch Goal and when we reach $8,000 will unlock the Farm, a new Tradesman Place that will be written by City Builder author Michael O. Varhola. Agriculture is the basis of most civilizations and farms among their most common features and are, consequently, places characters are likely to visit in the course of their adventures.

“In retrospect, not including a writeup for farms in the original book almost feels like an oversight,” Varhola said. “We were mostly focusing on urban areas themselves in those days, of course, and now we are taking a more comprehensive approach that also looks at the places needed to support them.”

And we have many more great Stretch Goals that can make this new edition of City Builder even more fun and useful! So, please help us get out the word about it, tell your friends why they should come on board with it too, and consider upgrading your pledge if it will get you a print edition of the book or you would like your name to appear on the monument illustration that artist Amanda Kahl is working on for it (and which we will preview presently).
