Incense of Tradendi, A Wondrous Item for 5e

Legend has it the incense of Tradendi was first created by a funeral priest, though accounts differ as to whether the discovery was accidental or the result of divine inspiration. Regardless, this incense, with its haunting scent of embalming resins and dried hyacinth blossoms, is of incalculable value to clerics and paladins who hunt those restless spirits that slip free of the grave’s embrace.

Incense of Tradendi

Wondrous item, uncommon

When lit, the fumes of this incense spread out in a sphere at the end of each round at a rate of 5 feet per turn, to a maximum of 15 feet. These fumes move around corners and through open doorways, windows, etc., but not through gaps or holes narrower than one inch. Incorporeal undead who end their turn within this sphere become corporeal until the end of their next turn. Undead cannot use incorporeal movement, etherealness, or similar abilities while under the effects of this incense.

Incense of Tradendi burns for 2d6 minutes, after which the fumes immediately disburse. A strong wind also disburses the fumes, though if the incense remains lit the fumes spread from their point of origin at the end of the round.

Once lit the incense cannot be moved without disbursing the fumes unless it is carried in a censer. The sphere of fumes remain centered on the incense while it is carried in a censer. As an action, a creature carrying a censer of burning incense can swing the censer to spread the sphere of fumes by an additional 5 feet and expand its maximum radius by 5 feet.

Manufacturing Incense of Tradendi

A cleric of paladin can create one cone or stick of this incense by performing a special ritual. The ritual takes 1 hour to perform, uses 100 gp of rare oils, resins, and powders associated with embalming, and requires the caster to expend a 2nd-level spell slot.
