Silver Best Seller, Writing News, and the Usual Bits and Pieces
Sorry about the lack of a blog last week, but even someone as prolific as myself needs to take a break once in a blue moon.
I’ll start with the update on my work. I’ve decided to give myself a deadline of Sept 30th to complete the work I need to do on the Harvesting book. I will be sending it as soon as it’s done to Mike for his consideration. No more pussyfooting around, it’s going to be finished.
Yes, New Mutant Monday continues with the Uniclops and the Biters two weeks ago, and this week I posted Mimicker and the Qu Xian Bing. The first two were inspired by images that I found online. One by pure accident, and don’t ask me how I discovered the image for the Uniclops, but I did. The third was inspired by a very real octopus that can alter its form. The last one, well it was based on a very annoying bird.
I have two more ideas, one has already been written up for posting, the other I still have to write up, and probably will do so tonight after I have posted this blog.
Last week I also wrote up the first conversion I’ve done in nearly a year! This was inspired by the TV show and novels I have mentioned over the past couple of blogs called Wayward Pines. I present to you the Abbies!
That leads to some news. I have to write up enough conversions to hit three hundred, and then we are going to see about finally getting these edited and compiled into a single book for sale. Some names will have to be changed, but that’s not a huge deal. This probably won’t happen for at least a year though, and I do need my readers to give me suggestions on what sort of critters need to be written up! I have a few in mind from ‘The 100’, ‘Defiance’, and ‘Dangerous Women,’ but that’s all at the moment. So if you have any suggestions, please post them!
For the first time ever, one of my Wisdom from the Wastelands issues hit a silver Best Seller at Drivethrurpg. Issue 1 has broken that mark at long last! I certainly hope more of my work will hit the silver list eventually.
Speaking of, Issue 51 should be available at the beginning of October. Stay tuned!
Buck Who? Chapter 33 And Chapter 34 went up on schedule the past two Fridays.
This week’s episode of D-Infinity Live covered ‘Universal Systems’. Always entertaining to watch, even if I haven’t been mentioned in a few weeks. =)
Also this week saw the release of the pathfinder version of ‘Insults and Injuries’ written by Dr. Eric Lis. It has been converted and the rules expanded so that it can be used in Pathfinder.
I hope to have a lot of my future material useable in Pathfinder as well!
Two weeks ago I finished the third and (probable?) novel – Andromeda’s War - in the Andromeda series from Legion of the Damned by William C. Deitz. It was a nice conclusion to the trilogy and wraps up the overall story-arch that dealt with the lead heroine, Andromeda. I can’t really go into too much detail, as it would end up spoiling it for those who want to read the book or the trilogy.
This week I finished ‘Descent’ which is the latest novel for the Walking Dead and continues the post-Governor tale of Woodbury. I was kind of taken back by the concept of one of the groups of survivors and what they were willing to do, as it really never occurred to me that such an event would take place in a post-apocalyptic setting. After putting a little bit of thought into it, such an event would not only be possible, but most likely very probable. Am I being vague? Hell yes, I don’t want to spoil it! Worth reading, especially if you’ve been following the series of novels.
And I finished ‘Wayward’, the second in the Wayward Pines trilogy. By this novel the TV series has really deviated a great deal from the books, and it is quite interesting to see where the series could have gone if it stuck to the books. Instead of reading a different book, I’m going to finish the trilogy this week.
The other night my wife and I watched a cheap but oddly well done movie called Alien Outpost, which is set ten years after an invasion and the victory over aliens simply called ‘Heavies’. Outposts have been set up across the globe to deal with the surviving aliens who were left behind when their fleets retreated.
One particular Outpost in Pakistan, becomes embroiled in a conflict with the few remaining aliens and turns out to be pivotal in locating a newly constructed base, which could be the spearhead of a new invasion.
It was light on SF, and the story could have been better, but you know, it did keep my interest for 90 minutes.
As many of you already know I purchased ‘Mad Max: Fury Road – the game’ when it was released on the 1st. After 36 hours of playtime, my initial impression is this. Wow!
The world is incredibly violent and bleak, as you would have expected from the movies. There is a much greater population, unlike the films, spread out across a nearly mind-bogglingly large sandbox.
There are missions to accomplish, but a player has plenty of exploration to do, side missions and so on.
I have been told those who play Batman will grasp the game quickly, and will see many similarities, but what I really love is the vehicle combat! You can also modify the hell out of your car, and use different cars too.
It’s going to keep me very busy until Fallout 4 hits the stores in just over 2 months.
And that’s it.
