Short and Sweet

Short and Sweet

This week’s blog is going to be short and sweet.

Monday saw another two critters for New Mutant Monday, the Crabdillo and Spine Wolves. One was inspired by a post on the various Facebook pages I belong to, the other was discovered purely by accident and I figured it would make a great critter.

Tomorrow as usual I will be posting two more. Another was inspired by a picture, the other like I just said, inspired purely by random accident.

For almost a year I was posting a new creature nearly every day on the site, all based upon creatures I found in movies, television, comics, books and games. Tonight is the first time in nearly a year I wrote up a new entry for this series.

The creature is an Abbie, from the excellent TV series and novels Wayward Pines. I also have two I want to write up from The 100 and another from a short story I read in the Anthology Dangerous women.

Oh and  here is the index for this list of free mutant conversions!

Last week on Thursday the crew discussed mind-altering substances in RPG’s. It’s worth a look, as always.

I finished a novel called The Killer by Tom Wood, the first in a series called Victor the Assassin. I wanted a little change from my usual run of novels and found this to be quite the action-packed tale of a hitman on the run.

The action scenes were well written and it’s rare to see a book able to play out a car chase, but Mr. Wood pulled it off.

It’s a little too modern for my liking, despite being well written. I prefer science fiction, as any of my readers already know. Still – you never know, I could end up continuing with the series when I need a break from my usual fare. And by all means, read the novel and enjoy it! Just because it’s not my usual type of book doesn’t mean I wouldn’t recommend it to my readers!

I’ve mentioned this TV series before and I will bring it up again. My wife and I finished watching season 2 of The 100. The canon continues to grow and more of the world is revealed this year. Alliances are made and shattered and many sacrifices are likewise enacted.

The action was great and more of the Grounder society and that of the Mountain People is revealed.

It is a brutal world to be certain and very savage, but the history is deep and the characters are rich and so many choices have to not only be made but acted upon.

I can’t recommend this show enough! Well, it helps that it is also my favorite genre.

Speaking of Genre’s, Chapter 32 of Buck Who? was posted on Friday. I finished Chapter 35 last week and will be working on 36 this week.

What I hope to find the time to do is work on one of several short stories. I’m about halfway finished a military SF story called ‘Boarding Action’, which is written from the first person perspective. I want to write a horror short about ghosts on an airliner, and another short about a trio of heroes fighting a dragon.

Sometime I’ll find the time I need to work on the three.

Oh and heh… it’s back to school time for the kiddies! Yeah, I know I’m evil – most of the kids don’t want to go back to school, and I can’t blame them. Summer is a great time to enjoy life away from the classrooms.

Sometimes I almost wish I was back in school myself.

It does mean that summer is almost over though and winter is that much closer. There are a couple events I’m looking forward to in the next few months.

Despite my misgivings about the last Expo here, I am going to Edmonton for their expo at the end of the month. Also on the same weekend I’m going to see my favorite comedian, Gabriel Iglesias. Then in December it’ll be time for the new Star Wars flick.

There are other things to look forward to over the next few months of course.

Tuesday I will be getting my copy of Mad Max: Fury Road – the game. After watching the various trailers and gameplay videos for this game, I am very eager to play it! I’ll probably have my initial views on it next weekend.

And that’s it. I’m done for this week. Please like my author Facebook page, and follow me on Twitter.

Hey, despite it being back to school for the kids, it’s a relief for the parents and it’s a good thing! Enjoy the peace, at least until the weekend hits!
