Other Spell Manifestations
Just some quick ideas on how some spells may be described.
Possible manifestations of Enlarge:
- The recipient “hulks out” and then grows calm after reaching full size.
- The recipient spins so fast it is a blur.
- The recipient’s parts enlarge enlarge separately, usually from the feet up.
- A ufo appears and shoots the recipient with an growing ray.
Possible manifestations of Sleep:
- Silver dust explodes over the targets.
- Ioun sheep.
- Ioun teddy bears.
- The text from a college class passes in front of the targets’ eyes.
- Abe Simpson appears and starts droning on.
Possible manifestations of Fool’s Gold:
- A leprechaun paints the metal.
- Droplets of colored rain fall on the object.
- An orb of water rusts the object, which then takes the appearance of gold.
- A mushroom or vine grows over the item and then rots away.
- The outer surface of the item bulges and writhes before bursting, revealing the new color underneath.
Possible manifestations of Forget:
- A sap or club strikes the target.
- Swirling colors appear before the target’s face and a voice tells them to forget.
- The memories emerge from the target’s head and fade away.
- Speech in the Primal Tongue tell the target to forget.
- A key flashes before the target, making them remember where they put their keys but causing them to forget something else.
Possible manifestations of Shatter:
- A burst of light surrounds the object just before it breaks apart.
- The object ages and decays.
- An ooze forces its way out of the object, breaking it from within.
- Tiny gremlins use picks and/or saws.
- A massive translucent hammer appears and slams into the object.
Possible manifestations of Anti-magic Shell:
- Tiny magic spirits float around and break up any spells they come in contact with.
- Tiny hands form sigils that float in mid air. They make more as the sigils are consumed by contact with spells.
- A supernatural bell jar is placed over the caster by a Lord of Law.
- Tiny tigerfish eat any spell they come into contact with.
- A swarm of tiny stop signs.
Possible manifestations of Fabricate:
- Chaotic shifting, the raw materials merge into a blob and then become the finished product
- Light from above appears and the raw materials fuse in an orderly manner.
- A cloud of darkness envelops the raw materials and fades with the finished product left behind.
- Phantom tools perform the work.
- Elemental atoms (Atlas’ Fantasy Bestiary) appear in swarms of all four elements and tear the raw materials apart before putting them into the final configuration.
- Holy or unholy music plays as the materials fuse into the final form.
- The earth swallows the raw materials and spits out the finished product.
- A swarm or flying mirrors appear. Changes occur first in the reflections, reality follows.
- Fire consumes the raw materials and from the ashes, the finished product emerges.
- Mad gnomes with golf clubs beat the raw materials into shape.
Possible manifestations of Passwall:
- Tentacles or roots break apart the wall and hold the fragments out of the way until they rebuild when the spell ends.
- The wall becomes translucent and phases.
- Glowing spheres slam into the wall, causing it to recede and illuminate.
- The wall freezes, then melts or shatters and the fragments become a quivering ooze on the ground.
- Blood seeps up from the floor and dissolves the wall. When the spell ends, the blood evaporates and the wall rebuilds from the vapors.
- The wall becomes brain tissue and thinks travelers through.
- The wall is replaced by a series of revolving doors.
- Tiny flail snails smash the wall, consume the fragments and then, when the spell ends, explode with the fragments fusing back into place.
Possible manifestations of Regenerate:
- Spiders swarm the wound and produce silk that transforms into flesh.
- The wound is covered in mud (which appears as a puddle in the floor if there is no soil nearby) which then transforms into flesh.
- Vines grow over the wound and then become flesh.
