In post apocalyptic settings, scars are signs that the person or creature is a survivor. That got me thinking about the experience point system in Mutant Future. It is based on Labyrinth Lord and is most finding loot and killing monsters. I think the latter needs to be expanded to surviving monster attacks rather than simply defeating them. Omega World, in Polyhedron, had a simple method of tracking experience- the more the party did in terms of exploration, the more points they earned. Here is a chart that is based off of that, one that is meant specifically for Mutant Future:
Minor Success- 100/ party member
Average Success- 500/ party member
Major Success- 2500/ party member
Survival at less than 25% hit points- + 50% xp for adventure, minor scar gained.
Survival at less than 10% hit points- +200% xp for adventure, major scar gained.
Scars provide bonuses to encounter checks. How much and with who is up to the Mutant Lord. Occasionally they are a penalty, but that is only with vault people or mutants who regenerate their wounds and never gain scars.
Obviously wounding oneself to try to get extra experience points is cheating and should be treated as such. Scars created outside of combat should also be obvious and so worthless or even cause a penalty to encounter checks.
Sorry about not posting more, but I have been not feeling well for the last couple weeks. It is difficult to just sit here and write this amount.
