Leviathan and Preparing for Comicpalooza
In twelve days I will be returning to Houston, Texas for Comicpalooza. I am rather surprised that I am returning, due to several factors that have taken place over the past year – including the death of my father-in-law.
Still, it was a tough battle, but I’m on my way.
So in preparation for the trip, Michael O. Varhola and I have been in contact a few times to figure out exactly what I’m going to be doing there.
Looks like I’ll probably be demoing some Mutant Future games. This might include character creation and maybe some short encounters. I do have a mini-adventure I ended up cutting from the module I sold to Goblinoid Games (which I’m going to assume is never going to be published now).
I’ll work out the details with Mike later this week.
I don’t know if I can help with the Little Orc Wars demo, as that would require me being crouched a great deal, and considering how much scar tissue I have in my left knee, that would be painful, to say the least.
And I’m going to help with the LARP on Friday and Sunday night. Something I never said I would do because of the way I feel about LARPing in general. Really not my thing. Still, I was asked, I’m going to help.
For me the absolute highlight will be meeting Jonathan Maberry. I have all his books on audio, and it’s kind of hard to autograph audio books, unless you happen to have them on disk. Well, I do the download through Audible, so I ended up buying the entire Joe Ledger series on Amazon.
Delivery date is for next Thursday or Friday. Here’s hoping! Cutting it very close.
I’ll also be bringing down my Amon and Mako costumes to wear during the LARP and also in general. I really wish I could bring my armor, but I’m seriously paranoid about it getting confiscated through customs, or damaged, or lost!a
And while I’m demoing the Mutant Future games, I will also be wearing my dark camo uniform, leather trench coat, and some accessories I will be brining. Michael and I will talk about other possible props I can borrow from him as well.
While I’m there, I won’t be bothering with pictures or autographs, with the exception of Jonathan and… get this… Roddy Piper.
I know, who knew I was a fan of him? It all stems back to a meeting that happened with him nearly a quarter of a century before. I want to see if he still remembers it, and no matter what, I want to meet him again! He was a great guy back then, and I hope it has not changed.
This week I completed Buck Who? Chapter 18 and posted Chapter 16. Nothing much to say otherwise except even though I’m going to be in Houston, I intend on posting chapter 18 on time… if not, a day early. I might have to post the New Mutant Monday a day late, depending on the internet connection I have down there.
And I have every intention of making damn sure I work on (at that time) Chapter 20-21. I should get quite a bit of writing finished as I wait for my flights, as well as while I’m on the plane. The trip is about 4 hours.
I also had a chance to get involved with the latest D-Infinity live podcast on Thursday this week. It’s been quite a while since I was last on.
I totally forgot - here is the link to last week’s New Mutant Monday – The Walker. Nope, it’s not what you’re thinking, believe me.
And this week’s top five list covered my favorite post-apocalyptic modules. I should have written this one when I was on the Post-Apocalyptic phase of my top five lists, but what the hell.
Hmm… I wonder if I should do up a Top Five Index?
This week also saw the completion of two books. First was the post-apocalyptic novel called ‘Objects of Wrath’ by Sean T. Smith. Overall, a pretty good story about WWIII and the destruction of the world. No weird mutants, no superpowers or crap like that. Just soldiers surviving and doing their best to rebuild. Only real issue I had was just how preachy it was. Plenty of people believe in god, but this book went a little overboard for my liking.
Still, I didn’t mind it.
The real treat was ‘The Lost Fleet, beyond the Frontier: Leviathan’. This is the fifth book in the second series from Jack Campbell and picks up where the forth book left off. Admiral Geary is on the heels of the ‘Dark Ship Fleet’, a fleet comprised entirely of warships under the control of AI’s.
As I have come to expect from Jack Campbell, I was not disappointed. An excellent book.
Like last week, this week’s image is from my friend and regular artist Alfonso Maesa. Last week it was of Tara Baku, who happens to be a Tiger Exotic. This time it’s Ra’naa Ahteen, the other of my major characters. She’s a Dragon-Exotic. As with last week, I hope to see a completed image of both of these in the near future.
And that’s it. As always I would like to invite my readers to like my Author Facebook page, as well as follow me on Twitter. I am still growing on Twitter, up to 42 followers now, with the unfollowers evening out with the new followers.
Until next Sunday, Peace!
