Force Awakens, Updates, and Observations

Next Week is Christmas, yay!

As you might have expected, I saw ‘The Force Awakens’.

Twice.

I saw it on Friday morning at 10:30 and again on Saturday (with my wife) at 1:45.

Did I like it? Hell yeah!

Will I spoil it for anyone? Not a chance.

I really like the new characters of Poe, Finn and Rey. Even the droid BB-8. It was great to see all our old favorites as well, but this is at least to me, passing the torch to a new generation. It’s time for new heroes and villains.

Visually it was distinctly different from George Lucas’s style. That is not necessarily a bad thing. As a writer I did have some issues with some of the plot, and of course I would have done things a lot differently, but I will not state what I had problems with, nor will I make suggestions on how to have done it differently.

Not my style, and I did promise no spoilers.

I loved it. Simple as that. Made me feel like I did when I saw the original Star Wars in 1977. There are going to be plenty of people who will bash the hell out of the movie and some of these people will have legitimate complaints.

Most of these people will be looking for a fight, purposefully pushing buttons and going out of their way to piss other people off.

You know them well – trolls.

I know this is impossible, but I wish people would not share posts from these trolls. If you ignore them and don’t spread their hate and venom, they will lose what they are looking for – the attention!

Anyhow… Yes I posted the last part of Buck Who? On Friday. The epilogue went up on Friday night and it made me a little sad to realize that I’m finished the book. I have had a few people send me requests for the entire book in PDF format and I complied.

I do have more stories that I will be posting – two fantasy, two fan-fictions, one zombie story, one military SF story and by the time I start to post them, probably another fan fiction (Star Wars), and maybe one more fantasy and a horror story. I’m not sure when I will post these, probably early in the new year.

I was very lazy this week. I did not do a single conversion. Sorry about that.

However I did post two more creatures for New Mutant Monday. The Shargull and the Felinoid. Both were suggested by my readers from Facebook.

Hey, you want me to write something up, post the picture or send it to me; I’ll get around to it eventually!

Nothing new from the Skirmisher this week, although they did play Krampusnacht on Thursday. You can check it out here!

With being as busy getting ready for the holiday next week, and of course being sick on Monday, I only managed to see one DVD this week. My wife and I watched ‘The Seventh Son’ and you know… I enjoyed it! I don’t know why it got such a bad rap; it was a fun, high-fantasy movie with some pretty good action and some humor. I honestly believe it is worth your time to watch.

I might get around to watching Jupiter Ascending later this week. Now that has a bad reputation for being a terrible movie. If I’m entertained, that’s all that matters.

Although I really should watch ‘The Mockingjay Part 1’ so I can get to the theater and see part two already.

And yes, I did finish another novel. This was ‘Prime’ by Jeremy Robinson.

It is technically the first novel in his Chess Team series, which introduces the main characters in the series and is about the formation of the team. Don’t let the name fool you, it is military adventure, and the only thing it has in common with chess are the call-signs of the various members.

Yeah, worth checking out.

Not sure what I’m going to read this week, I guess I’ll decide after I post this blog. Hopefully with Christmas at the end of the week I’ll find the time to get around to finishing whatever I happen to start.

Before I close this blog, will I write up some new conversions this week? I kinda want to, so we shall see what happens. It’s not like I don’t have a mess of suggestions waiting for my magical touch when it comes to writing up stats.

And that’s it.

Merry Christmas folks, I hope you have a great few days off and don’t let the time of year stress ya… as long as you’re with people you love, that’s all that matters.
