Atomic Introduction, Or: How I Learned To...Love The Bomb

Howdy, y'all.

I'm Justin S. Davis, the newest recruit to the D-Infinity (ask for it by name!) band o' bloggers.  I've been rambling about post-apocalyptic mayhem for a few years over at A Field Guide To Doomsday, and now I'll be scattering my particular brand of brain-droppings here, too.

The post-apocalyptic genre is near and dear to my heart.  The very first role-playing game I owned was 1983's Gamma World (2nd Edition), and it triggered a lifelong love of the dice-slangin' hobby.  Gamma World scratched all my geek-kid itches:  monsters, superpowers, monsters, robots, monsters, lasers, monsters, talking animals, and more monsters.  And, if I look back at it with 40-year-old eyes, the game helped me grapple with very real anxieties about nuclear war and Commie invasions and Star Wars (the Ronald Reagan kind, not the Darth Vader kind) and zombies and biker gangs and The Rapture (I had some seriously fire-n-brimstone relatives) and such...because not only was Armageddon survivable, but you'd mutate and grow bat wings and extra eyes, and shoot fire from your hands, all while riding a horse with antennae, compound eyes, and wayyyyy too many legs.

Yeahhhhhh.  I was a goofy little guy.  It plum never crossed my mind that we'd all just up and die from radiation poisoning within a week of The Bomb dropping (assuming you didn't outright perish in the nuclear flames, of course).

Anyhow, I love me some post-apocalyptic science-fantasy.  And when Goblinoid Games' Mutant Future came along, it rekindled my affection for the genre, leading to blogging and actually running the game for a great group of players.  (I'm a firm believer in making use of the books on the shelf, and playing the games you love.)

I hope you enjoy my upcoming wasteland musings, and don't mind the "gonzo"...because that's the only way I know to do doomsday proper!
