Another version of the undead virus responsible for the creation of the Walking Dead affected a very small percentage of those infected. Like all Walking Dead, these creatures were mutated by the virus, and although deceased, had the need to consume the flesh of the living.

It remains uncertain if the virus was mutated due to the radiation and toxins released during the final wars, if something in the victim’s DNA caused the victim to become something far worse than a regular Walking Dead, or if these creatures are the direct result of deliberate changes introduced to the virus.

Either way, like the Exposed Zombie, these particular creatures undergo a massive metamorphosis. They easily increase in size by nearly fifty percent, and the weight is tripled. The musculature and bones toughen, making them far stronger than a regular human. All memories and intellect are wiped, leaving them nothing more than rage-fueled killing machines that live to destroy, consume and spread the virus.

When engaged in combat, these creatures are more likely to slash and claw, and only after their victims have been reduced to bloody piles do they bother to feed. As a result, typically little remains of the victim to reanimate. Those that are reanimated by the creature nine times out of ten will rise as regular Walking Dead. Only approximately ten percent will mutate and become this version of the zombie.

It is said that there are those in the wastelands who have managed to figure out a way to control the undead created by the virus. These rumors say that this particular type of undead is used as a ‘shock and awe’ troop, sent ahead of the regular Walking Dead to pulverize resistance, destroy robotic units, take out vehicles and simply to absorb incoming fire.

If they have one drawback is that the heart likewise increases in size, so much to the point it pushes through the chest. Although undead, these creatures still have a beating heart and blood runs through their mutated and altered bodies. The heart is located on the right side of the body, no longer centered or slightly to the left. Anyone striking at the heart will inflict triple damage (but only through the use of piercing weapons and bullets do count). This requires a -6 to hit, because even though the heart is greatly enlarged, it is still a difficult target to hit, since the creature is constantly on the move. Oddly enough, the creature is not affected by energy-based attacks.

These creatures are likewise highly resilient and able to absorb an obscene amount of damage before finally succumbing to true death. And though their heart beats they are still dead, and likewise are immune to stun, paralysis, poison, radiation, and disease. It is also not affected by the mutation vampiric field. Being mindless, most mental mutations such as neural thrust will likewise fail to work on the creatures.
