One of the more dangerous and successful breeds of chimera created by the strange geneticists behind the Chimerians, this creature is the result of combining the Snow Owl with a white Tiger.

Originally these creatures were only found in the coldest regions of Canada and Europe, they have now spread to be found in any region where snow falls at least several times during the year.

They are quite striking creatures, and significantly larger than the Snowy Owl, but also smaller than a tiger. The average member of this chimerian species is about four feet in length, and weighs around seventy pounds. The creature has hollow bones and a massive wing-span of nearly twenty feet in length.

Like the ancestors of both species, these creatures are for the most part solitary. They hunt alone, live alone, and only interact with other members of their species when it comes time to mate, although they do retain a special bond with their mother, and sometimes will build their own nests near the territory of their parent.

Mating occurs during the winter and the female gives birth to a litter of 1d4 live kittens in the spring. Nests are built far in the tops of trees or in hollows well above the ground, although it is not unheard of for these creatures to make nests inside caves or ruins that are safely away from the surface. It takes the young kittens a full year to develop to the point they can live and hunt on their own without the mother’s help.

The creatures are pure carnivores, preferring fresh meat over everything else, and have as a twisted trait, a preference for other owls and felines, especially domesticated cats. These are preferred over all other types of food.

They only hunt during the night and sleep during the day. Their keen senses make it impossible for anyone to surprise them, and if anyone comes near a nesting female with kittens, she will investigate the intruders and after studying them will either take her kittens in her claws and mouth to a safer local, or she will attack the intruder with the intent to either drive them away or kill them outright.

When engaging in combat, the female will try and rake out the eyes of a target. If the creature rolls a natural twenty during any of the three attacks, the victim must make a saving throw versus death or be permanently blinded.  Otherwise the creature will swoop in and strike, and then fly away, doing its best to stay out of melee range. Typically the only way to combat these creatures is to use a ranged weapon.

Surprisingly enough, the creature can be domesticated. If taken when only a few weeks old, the kittens can be hand-fed and raised by those with the patience and willingness to do so. This requires nearly constant contact with the young, feeding them and caring for them until they are approximately six months old. At this time they will have fully bonded with their care-giver and will consider them to be the parent.

If they are continually provided with food, they will stay near the parent, despite the instinct to fly and carve out their own territory. They will still be independent, but will always stay near the adoptive parent, and will defend their parent with a ferocity reserved only for their own kittens.  A typical kitten will fetch approximately a thousand gold, for those willing to pay for them and take the time required to raise them.

Mutation: Aberrant form (chimera: Snowy Owl and Tiger, natural weapons), increased sense (hearing, smell), thermal vision, ultraviolet vision.
