No one knows how these mutant birds were stuck with a Chinese name, but it has stuck. The creatures are the genetic mutant descendants of the common Magpie found pretty much throughout the entire world.

At first glance, like a lot of the mutant creatures that exist in the wastelands, it appears to be a regular old bird, one that can still be found everywhere. The difference is that these birds are more intelligent than their ancestors, more aggressive and a great deal more dangerous.

They are the same size and overall shape of their ancestors, but the eyes are what give them away. Instead of black orbs, the eyes are a pale blue, and can easily be seen in the dark, as they glow and sparkle.

As stated, these creatures are very aggressive and will not bother waiting or searching for carrion to consume. Instead they will hunt lone or weak-appearing prey and attack, doing their best to kill the creature before they feast.

When they encounter such a target, they will swarm in, swooping and striking with their sharp talons to try and incapacitate the potential meal. Once the target has been sufficiently worn down, they will start pecking and pulling away chunks of flesh, consuming it on the spot.

If anyone dares to fight back, the creatures will use their energy retaining cell structure in retaliation. This will send out a burst of electricity in a 20’ radius, centered on the bird. This does 2d4 points of electrical damage (which incidentally, the birds are immune to). Those caught in the burst radius are allowed a saving throw versus energy for half damage. They can use this once every second round.

What makes the creatures so dangerous however is that they use a strange mutation, similar to the warp field weapons that are so common in the wastelands. The attacks will automatically bypass any type of force-field or personal energy screen, and all attacks are made as if the AC was three points worse. For example, they are attacking a man wearing plate armor (which is AC 3) and due to their mutation, they attack as if the target had an AC of 6. This is always on and does not have to be activated.

Finally, as stated, these creatures are immune to electrical-based attacks. If they are struck by electrical-based weapons, the attacker will find the attack turned back on them and will hit automatically. This does not happen with the electrical burst the creatures use though.

They are mean-spirited creatures who will attack for no reason other than to kill.
