Fast Game Hack #2 for BASH and BASH-SF - Fortune Cards!

Hack # 2: Fortune Deck:

The Savage Worlds RPG has long included the notion of a deck of cards that players can draw on and lay down to allow unusual events, even story type actions, to enter play. Adapting this to BASH would be as simple as going to Go-Deck-Yourself and creating your own custom deck, which will have whatever cards you think are cool. You can tailor them for different Genres, Supers, Space, Fantasy, etc.

To bring them into BASH - Anytime someone would gain a Hero Point, they draw a Hero Card instead. They can play a card on their turn, or at other times if they have a card that says they can. Follow and resolve the card text immediately or as written. They can also trade cards in for Hero Points if they need to buff a roll a bit.

How does this look in play?

The Sky Corsair is hanging by one arm from the railing of his ship, dueling an enemy captain. He plays the Card: Old Friend, and exclaims in surprise as the enemy captain pushes back his helmet, revealing himself to be Kaz Kallor, once the commander of the Sky Corsairs. Whether Kaz Kallor decides to continue his attack or not remains is up to the GM, but the story is enriched by this detail very in keeping with the Planetary Action genre.

Or:

Hazard, receiving a Card Draw [in the place of a Hero Point reward] for his cinematic leaping battle across a condemned roller rink full of Killer-Clownbots [note to self: gotta get the Datafile for these guys up on d-Infinity], draws Daring Escape just in time. As the charges under the rink explode, hazard leaps for the glitter ball hanging from the ceiling and rides it as it arcs skyward.

In case you are lazy, and because I happen to have then deck anyway, I have attached a link on Dropbox to the Deck I use for BASH. It should work with little or no alteration for BASH Supers, Sci Fi, even Fantasy or other genres with little to no modification. And you can always leave cards out if you don't like them.
