Wracking my brain for an idea for Halloween this year, I decided to go with an idea I got this spring- undead that use the energy they drain to create objects. These objects are real and look like purple tinted shadows, shadows with facial features floating on them or something similar. I am still not sure what to call it, everything that has come to mind is stupid or boring. Have any suggestions?

The mad scientist was a transmuter or alchemist who continued their research after their death and “rebirth”. Now the creature takes trips outside of its lab to collect energy from anything and everything that will give it up. When it returns to the lab, it transforms some of the energy into lab equipment and the rest into tricks and traps to protect itself and the work.

Actually those are the middle line of defense. The first line is animal zombies with grafts made from energy and (the new) matter. They look terrifying and can do horrible things to the living.

The last line of defense for the lab is the equipment. All of it merges into one massive animated object that breaks into smaller one as its takes damage (the rules for oozes splitting work well here). While the laboratory attacks, the scientist escapes with what notes it can. If the PCs get their hands on some or all of the notes, necromancers will be very interested in buying, or taking, them.

What the wight is working towards is a way to convert more than life energy to the new form of matter. If it learns of a way to transmute heat and/or light, it may very well try to get to and transform the sun…
