I am a big fan of the tradition of celebrating the New Year. While 2011 was a good year in many ways it was also a tough one for Skirmisher and included almost as much struggle and disappointment as it did successes. So, suffice it to say, I am just as glad to put the last year behind us and move forward with what I genuinely believe will be out best year ever. And I have numerous reasons for why I believe this will be the case, a few of which I will share here:
* Comicpalooza. I attended this growing regional convention in Houston last Memorial Day Weekend and was so impressed with it that Skirmisher is going to have a bigger presence at it than at any other previous event. This event is poised to a national contender and to start drawing market share from the big, expensive, labor intensive annual conventions in the Midwest, and I am proud to have Skirmisher coming in with it on the ground floor.
* 10-Year Anniversary. Yes, 2012 marks a decade since Skirmisher released its first publication, the d20 sourcebook Experts! This is significant for many reasons, not the least of which is the many game companies that have come and gone since 2002. Yeah, it has been a struggle an awful lot of the time, but Skirmisher has weathered the storms of the past decade and is looking forward not just to the next year but also to the next 10.
* Flagship Products. We have significant product releases every year but have got a couple of especially big things scheduled for release this year. These include Interplanetary, a gritty, self-standing science fiction role-playing game by game developer Ken Spencer and Sixgun Horror, a weird west sourcebook for the Cthulhu Live live-action horror role-playing game by Tim and Pat Ewick. Other great products we will be trotting out over the coming months include Clint Staples' Mythos Society Guide to New England, Dr. Eric Lis' Insults & Injuries, Lloyd Brown's Game Retailer Guide, a line of fiction that we will kick off with my own Swords of Kos: Necropolis novel, Chris Van Deelen's and Derek Holland's Wasteland Weekly for post-apocalyptic role-playing games, and the next few issues of our d-infinity multi-platform game magazine.
There is more, of course, but those are the highlights! Suffice it to say, I am very much looking forward to overseeing Skirmisher in 2012 and to interacting with our writers, artists, and fans.
