Kickstarters and I'm Too Lazy to Come Up with Something Witty ...
Just like last week, the work on the harvesting book continues. I won’t go into the details, as my long term readers have heard it time and again.
Chapter 31 of Buck Who? Went up, as usual, Friday night. I have been on a bit of a roll when it comes to this novel, and managed to get chapter 34 finished this week and started on Chapter 35. That means I’m currently 3 full chapters ahead of schedule.
That’s always a good thing. It allows me to make changes each week, fill in stuff I missed, make changes that are needed, that sort of thing.
The downside is I’m beginning to lose steam when it comes to the New Mutant Monday series of posts. I did post three last week, the Flows, Doom Circles and Tiny Terrors. A bit of a menagerie and variety.
Yes, despite slowing down, I will be posting two more tomorrow. At least I have quite a lot of inspiration coming from the two Gamma World Facebook pages.
This week’s podcast had the crew at D-Infinity play Dark Nova for an hour. As always, they had a blast playing this game. I’m tempted to pick it up myself, but currently I have quite a few books that I want to get first, such as the Broken Earth hardcover book, Flesh Weavers for Mutant Epoch, Rise of the Drow and a few others. The downside is the Sentry Box, my local store, does not have these for purchase, which means I have to order online.
With the exchange rate and shipping, it is more than a little expensive for me and as such I need to space out my purchases. I don’t need to rack up a huge credit-card debt, after all.
Speaking of Podcast, they’re starting to run out of topics, so if you have any suggestions, post them away. I don’t expect to see any replies to this but I still had to throw it out there. Heh, the only replies I ever get are the god-damned spammers which we delete as quickly as we can.
Last week I mentioned the show Wayward Pines. I decided to download and listen to the first book in the trilogy. As I expected, there were quite a few differences from the novel and the first season of the show. The book essentially covered the first five episodes of the series. I did enjoy it, and I will get the other two novels in the trilogy to listen to in the near future.
The second novel I finished this week was called ‘The Second Ship’. It’s a young adult novel about the crash of a pair of alien ships back in the 50’s. One dubbed the Rho ship was discovered and over the decades the technology was unraveled. The other was never found, until a trio of young high-school students stumbled upon it.
This of course changed their lives when they each donned a metallic band. They became more than what they used to be and were then suddenly thrust into a world of espionage and a very real alien threat.
It’s a three book trilogy so far and although it was kind of fun, it did not really strike me as some books have. I probably will continue it, but not for many months down the road.
Since this week seems to be one where I bring up topics I discussed last week, I’ll mention the Metamorphosis Alpha PDF’s I downloaded. I got all but two of the PDF’s that were available through DrivethruRPG. I didn’t bother with the GM screen or the handouts, but I did buy the rest.
Yes, The PDF’s are damn expensive. $6 for a PDF which is 16-24 pages long. I could have purchased all of the books in physical form from the Sentry Box, but then I would be paying around $14 a piece. So I got the books and printed them out, now I am going to take them and get the books bound into a single volume at Staples.
Well maybe soon, I noticed that there was another one scheduled for release on the Goodman Games site, so I’ll probably hold off until then.
Three were campaign source-books – gadgets and creatures, mutations and weapon. The rest were adventures. Of course with the game being OSR there was a lot of shall we say, open for interpretation and the GM to develop a lot of house rules, but that was one of the charms of the old games.
Despite my bitching about the price, I will continue to support the game. If I wasn’t so concerned with watching my money at the moment, I would like to support the Epsilon City Kickstarter campaign. As of this blog, the campaign has reached 26,000 of the original 9,000 goal, so quite a few milestones have been achieved, meaning a lot of additional material will be produced for the boxed set.
I’ll just have to wait until it is released in March next year. As I stated, I need to watch my cash flow at the moment.
Now for something I rarely bring up in my various blogs. Web Comics, specifically the Least I could Do comic. I’ve been following it for well over a decade and it has brought a lot of pleasure to me. I log online every morning and go to the page to see the latest strip.
They have a kickstarter as well, and this is to produce three more volumes as well as reprint the missing 6th volume. It still has three weeks to go and they’re well on the way to achieving the goal.
Again I wish I had the spare cash for this project but you know what I already said about it.
I have a feeling it will be accomplished, since they hit $23,000 of the $30,000 they need.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading the strip, go back to the link I provided and see for yourself.
And while you’re at it, check out their companion comic, Looking For Group. This one is a real treat for those who like fantasy. There are currently seven volumes available for this, including the massive omnibus hardcover, which contains all of the first three compilations.
I’m nearly finished with this week’s blog, but I am going to go on a bit of a rant right now. It’s all about something that annoy the shit out of me.
So many religious nutbags and others like to use the phrase ‘god hates’. Hmm… god is supposed to be all powerful and all seeing. He created heaven and earth, and as such has the power to do whatever he wants.
So with that being said, whatever god hates, well he could simply cause them to cease to exist. They never would have been born, created, what have you. It really is that simple. So to me, obviously god doesn’t hate – it’s the fucktards that say this stuff that are the problem.
And there are far too many of these idiots in the world. There always have been and clearly instead of dropping off the radar, they’re becoming more and more prominent over time.
Sometimes the world bugs the shit out of me.
Now for a non-rant but an observation and potential inspiration. What if Ghosts and demons were not in fact the shades or evil spirits of those who have left the world behind – or have come to corrupt those here? What if there are one of two possible explanations? What if a perceived ghost is nothing more than a time echo? Nothing supernatural, just the reflection of some event trapped in time which loops? Or the ghosts and demons are in fact time travelers?
How about ghosts and demons are in fact an alien species that have come to witness how we go about our lives, but occasionally are discovered and as such they take on a supernatural aspect to frighten the curious?
What if demons are another species of alien that tries to spread fear and corruption, to sow the seeds of hate and mistrust so that our species will soften itself up for an impending invasion?
Just a little food for thought, for possible inspiration.

Until next week, continue to enjoy life and love one another!
