Infinite Warfare, Inkantations, Shattered Spear, and My Usual Ramblings
As of this blog I have four more to write before heading to Comicpalooza with my son to help Skirmisher. Kinda, sorta getting excited about going down to Houston once again, and here’s hoping I’ll enjoy my time there as much as I did last year.
Projects – well I wrote up a couple of new conversions, and of course two more creatures for New Mutant Monday. I wrote up the Gelf from Doctor Who, Rock Rhino from TMNT, and the Gemini from Wrath of the Titans – god what a dull movie that was…
I wrote up the Ravenous Stilts, based on a picture which has been floating around online for ages, and the second creation was sent to me by one of my fans. I named it the Bullion and no, Bullion is not gold nor is it something you make soup out of. It’s a chimera of a bull and a lion. I know, bizarre.
Then again I am so it suits me just fine.
Two more creations are going up tomorrow morning, and as always I hope my readers will enjoy them. I have noticed a distinct drop in the amount of likes my work has been getting though, and that is a little disconcerting. I wonder if my real life issues are starting to reflect in my work? Maybe I’m wrong, maybe the drop I see is nothing more than my imagination.
When it comes to my work, I have come to the realization that I might as well hold off turning anything in that is complete, with the exception of material for the next issue of D-infinity. With the disaster that struck Michael O. Varhola, as well as prepping for Comicpalooza, I doubt I’ll see any of the items he currently has in his hands until this time next year!
Which means that the material I have been waffling about is going to continue to sit without being worked on, but then again as anyone who reads my blogs on a regular basis knows, I have been in a serious slump the last two months due to many problems.
Soon as I find a job that will help me regain my desire to create!
Before I get into the usual topics and reviews, I wanted to say something about the new trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Grow the fuck up people.
I watched it and damn it looks awesome! COD has been growing and changing with each new edition, the story following an overall arc and introducing brand new tech and options. This shows the battle being taken off planet and god-damn it looks cool!
Of course fanboys and the freaks of nature online have already been freaking out over it and have made it the second most hated video on Youtube.
A bunch of fuctard losers. It’s a fucking game! For someone like me, who is by far the minority who buys and plays the games strictly for the single player campaign, that looks incredible. I could not care less about multiplayer, as I never bother. I don’t like playing against people who spend pretty much all their free time playing online and trash-talking one another. Hell – other than simply not having the time, that sort of shit is why I stopped playing games like Everquest 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic and other MMO’s. I have zero tolerance for the idiots I kept running into.
So let the retards and the assholes who are part of that whole gamergate shit – because you know they’re probably the biggest bitches and whiners out of all of them – shut the hell up and let those of us who want to play the game for whatever reason do so and enjoy it!
Ha! I think I just swore more in this blog than I have over the past six months’ worth. Then again that’s how sick to death I am of the internet and the pricks who troll it.
Oh and while I’m at it… someone make Trump disappear. You can decide how.
And back to your regularly scheduled blog.
An observation when it comes to male and female heroes in books. I guess being a man I have no problem with male protagonists getting it on with a beautiful woman, although over the years I have seriously gotten tired of reading sex scenes, which are nothing more than filler.
I am guilty of writing a few though for my Buck Who? novel during the first few chapters. I sort of eluded to it later.
Yeah I guess I’m a hypocrite, although truth be told I probably will never write another sex scene again in my upcoming works.
Huh… I’m getting old and reading it simply does nothing for me. Anyhow, I am getting sidetracked.
I do tend to look down upon heroic female characters that get involved in sex scenes though, as for me it tends to bring them down a notch from being heroic to something less than.
Frankly I know my view is completely wrong and skewed. After all sex is something natural and perfectly wonderful for many reasons other than making children.
It’s stupid for me to look down upon it, and yet… and yet two of my major characters in my Buck Who and my fantasy novels are rather ravenous. I can sort of explain one being so due to her heritage – after all, poppa was a Incubus, but the other?
So yeah very hypocritical. I need to change that.
This week’s book review is the 4th entry in the Lost Stars series called Shattered Spear. This is the spin-off from the Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell and it is the last one we’re going to see for quite a while, since it has become clear he’s gotten kind of tired of writing the books.
A shame, as I really enjoyed the novel and was looking forward to more in both series.
This novel is a continuation of the Midways system’s battle to become fully independent and to remove the last vestiges of the hated Syndicate way of life. They are trying to bring other close-by systems into the fold, while dealing with the deadly Enigma race which wants to destroy all trace of humanity from several of the systems.
Movies – shockingly enough I did not really watch any. I was spending a great deal of my time looking for work and keeping the house clean for my wife.
I did finish watching Game of Thrones Season 5. No I will not be watching season 6 until about this time next year when it comes out on DVD.
The divergence from the books continues, but since it’s been over two years since I read the last published novel, I don’t remember all that much about it.
I have picked up a new book, something I have been searching for quite some time. This is a book from 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming called Inkantations. It is about tattoo magic for the Pathfinder system.
It covers feats for creating tattoos, skills, and of course a lot of magical tattoos. I’m guessing the writers are really into body-art like this, and they spend time discussing how various races might use such magic, and really go deeply into tattooing equipment and the like.
They even added a couple of classes to the game, if you’re the type who would be so inclined to play a magic user that deals in tattoos.
One aspect of the book I found pointless was tattooing spells to your body which would end up disappearing once cast, kind of like the way a scroll would when used. Now if they made it so that the tattoos could be ‘charged’ I think it would be worth-while using it for a game. I’m sure that a good GM could easily come up with house-rules to cover that.
No matter what, this book is really worth picking up.
And that’s it.
Have a great week folks!
