I need to quit my day job, Jurassic World, and Ultimate Psionics

So much has happened the past week, I honestly believe I need to quit my day job just to be able to get all the work accomplished.

That, or stop writing ‘Buck Who?’. When I began writing that serialized novel, I had no idea what the future was holding in store for me. I had not planned on going to Comicpalooza. I had not figured I would have had a great time there.

I certainly never expected to meet Jonathan Maberry and be told to get off my ass and get my zombie novels published, that’s for sure.

That six day even made one major impact on my life. Right now I need to get cracking and do an revision with lots of re-writes on ‘The Escape’. I still have seven source books to finish. I also have been getting bit by the short story bug again.

Just this week I have written in excess of 20,000 words. That’s between ‘Second Encounter’, my first Fan Fiction in about 15 or more years, Chapter 23 of ‘Buck Who?’ This covers my two weekly blogs, as well as three entries for New Mutant Monday, which will be going up tomorrow.

And now I have ended up coming up with another short story. One particular author who I have enjoyed several of his works, Weston Ochse, posted a photo on his Facebook page, showing a fog or something similar coming out of the vents on an airplane. I made one little comment on it, as he requested, and the next thing you know, it’s going to become a short story.

Dammit! So over the next two weeks I have to write a story about boarding action in space, and then this little horror short.

I will never learn.

Work wise, I managed to get quite a few entries finished on the Entertainment Mutant Index. It’s still not finished, but it now covers up to and including the letter P. Still have a lot of work to do.

Buck Who? Chapter 21 has been posted as well. Then again, my readers are expecting that.

Two more mutants, the Iruka and the Saal Jyu were posted on Monday. Tomorrow I have three going up. The reason is that they are all related in one fashion or another. And for some reason I would rather have even numbers instead of odd when it comes to the total count.

And yes, I have updated the New Mutant Monday Index as well.

Nothing new published by Skirmisher the past few weeks, and that should not come as a surprise. The reason is simple; the company has been busy with pre and post-comicpalooza work and preparation for more conventions to come in the next few months. It is a busy time of year for the boys.

So hopefully we’ll see new material in the near future.

I did manage to finish two books last week. First I finished Brother Odd by Dean Koontz. It was refreshing to see a novel set in a monastery where the Brothers and Nuns were kind, caring people. Too often you see the exact opposite. It was quite an entertaining read, and one of the reasons I have grown to like Mr. Koontz’s work over the past few years. This story deals with Odd coming to grips with the loss of Stormy and trying to figure out his place in the world, while helping the Monks and Nuns. When the Bodach’s appear, he knows something bad, really, really bad is about to happen.

The other book I finished was Steel World by B. V. Larson. It was like reading a video game brought to life. Think of a Galactic Empire where your membership rests upon whatever trade commodity you have to offer. If you don’t have anything, you’re species is toast. Simple as that. Humans are good at war and as such offer their legions to fight as mercenaries. The video game aspect comes in when you die, instead of it being ‘game over’, you can be revived and sent back into the action. There are circumstances that will get you ‘permed’, which means no revival. Overall it’s the sort of book I’ve come to expect from Mr. Larson and I did enjoy it enough to want to continue He’s quite prolific and the fifth book is due out in the near future.

One RPG acquisition came into my hands at long last. I have wanted to purchase the Ultimate Psionics book. It cost a pretty penny, over $100 Canadian, and as such that is one reason I had not purchased it yet.

I have barely had the time to skim over the book but just from the initial assessment, it was well worth the price. No real review, but it certainly was a great addition to my collection.

Oh and I just got back from watching Jurassic World. This sequel was long overdue. VERY long overdue. It doesn’t invalidate the previous movies, just expands upon them. The story is very simple – what if the park, now dubbed ‘world’ finally opened its doors?

Add some rather questionable science, greed, you know, the usual, and you have a recipe for disaster.

A popcorn movie, to be certain, but it was fun. Oh, and don’t bother with the extra cash for the 3D. Just not worth it. Enjoy it well enough without that.

I could continue this blog with a rant, but you know what, I just don’t feel like it. Sometimes the rants have a purpose, especially when I feel as if I have been wronged, or if I see something I feel is very wrong and needs to be addressed.

If I ranted this week, it would not be about anything along those lines, and would be just a waste of not only my time, but my reader’s time.

So, as always, please follow me on Twitter, and if you can find the time, like my personal author Facebook page.

Until next week, peace!
