Projects, Defiance, And Star Wars!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians! How many of you ended up in a turkey coma? I didn’t but it was a close thing!

This week has been a good week when it comes to writing for several reasons.

First, the harvesting book is almost done. Maybe a dozen entries to finish, and then a couple of rules to write and voila!

I not only got more work finished on that book, but managed to write up three new entries for the entertainment conversions. The Cannies, Barasp and the Gargantuan Flytrap. I’m sure my readers will recognize all these creatures. I still have over 50 to write before we seriously start to look at getting these published.

My New Mutant Monday saw two more inspired by images yet again. The Glowing Turtle and the Yako-Sei No Sekkusu Akuma. Two more will be posted tomorrow, but later than usual since it’s a holiday here in Canada.

Work also began on cutting and pasting all my weapon issues for the upcoming weapons book. This little task is gonna take a while, since after I have pasted all the issues (which I had a list of in last week’s blog), I will be adding a shitload of new material. I have three pages of bullet point ideas that I will be adding to this book. So it’s not going to be just a reprinting of the issues with some changes made, but it will contain all sorts of new material.

And at long last my epic Buck Who? is nearly complete. The last couple of chapters have really gone a long way to wrapping up this novel, so who knows, maybe I’ll have it finished in time for the national novel writing challenge next month. Oh and of course Chapter 38 went up on Friday, as usual.

Nothing new from Skirmisher this week, but the usual podcast was posted on Thursday, all about the Red Planet, Mars!

I also got a review for Wisdom from the Wastelands Issue 51: Animal and Plant Genotypes. Four out of five, and the reviewer was pretty detailed about it, which I was pleased with. A five would have been nicer, but I’ll gladly take what I can get! =)

Two books were added to my read shelf this week. I finished ‘The Border’ by Robert McCammon. It’s a post-apocalyptic horror novel about two alien races that are involved in a never ending battle and Earth happens to get caught in the middle. The planet and ecosystem have been ravaged by this war and humanity is on the brink of extinction, until one young teenager seems to have a possible answer to ending the conflict. I rather enjoyed the novel!

I wish I could say the same about the second novel – Star Wars: Aftermath by Chuck Wendig. The prose was pretty weak, the characters were not exactly what I would call memorable or likeable.

And the narrator was atrocious! Well, maybe not that bad but I found myself groaning more than a few times listening to him. The guy got way too excited reading the book.

If this is the first in a trilogy, I’m out. I barely managed to give this book a 2 out of 5.

On the upside I finished season 3 of ‘Defiance’. Good show, liked the overall story arc for this year, liked how some of the characters developed and changed, although I was disappointed to see a couple of the characters killed off. I won’t bother saying who, as I don’t wish to spoil it for anyone.

It also took a full month, but I finished Mad Max: Fury Road. The ending was quite bleak, but that’s to be expected, considering just how bleak the movies are! I really enjoyed this game, and got a hell of a kick out of the vehicular combat! The hand to hand, meh, button mashing more than anything, but what the hell.

At least once the game ends you’re not stuck and have to go back to a previous save – you can go and finish off various missions you might have missed, clean up the wasteland, and generally be one of those ‘completionists’ like myself. I’m going to try and get all the achievements that I can out of the game!

After all, Fallout 4 comes out in less than a month! Got your copy on reserve yet?

Oh and yes, since I am such a fan of the movie and the game, check out ‘The Art of Mad Max: Fury Road. I love beautiful art and if you’re a fan of either, then get the book. It’s worth your time and you won’t be disappointed. I know I wasn’t that’s for damn sure.

The latest Pathfinder hardcover was released this week: Inner Sea Races. I just placed an order for it on Amazon so I should be getting it by Thursday. It’s my anniversary present from my wife, as this time next week we will be celebrating our 23rd year of marriage.

And that’s it for this week.

As always, please follow me on Twitter (600 now!) and Facebook.

Enjoy the extra day off my fellow Canadians!
