New Creatures, Conversions, and Rewrites

Time for my weekly update!

I have a deadline of  March 1st for the Wisdom from the Wastelands compilation, which is no big deal. All the notes I wrote up are finished, and there are a few more items I want to add before I go through it and re-arrange everything.

It is my hope that this will be a good seller, especially since it can be used in pretty much any OSR game, including White Star.

I’ve also completed the re-write and edit of chapter 2 of ‘The Escape’, my first of two zombie novels. Tomorrow (or later today, if I end up posting this Monday morning, and it looks like I will be), I’ll start the edit on chapter 3.

When it comes down to it, I was thinking of mixing all the individual stories that comprised the first five chapters, splitting them up. Instead of that I am just increasing the number of chapters. An 11-13 per chapter is pretty excessive, so I need to cut these into more manageable blocks.

So there you have it for the updates regarding my current projects.

Last week saw, as always, two new additions to my New Mutant Monday series of posts. I added the Pengales, and the Weather Wardens. I still have quite a few of the chimera’s to write up, but I am trying to even it out with at least either one original creation of my own, or one inspired by an image sent to me by my readers.

Once I have hit 100 creations, we will be turning them into a book. Don’t fret, I will continue to write up two new creatures per week and post them, and as long as I can keep this going, I intend on working with Michael Varhola and the rest of the guys on putting out an annual every year with the 100 creatures.

And of course I have continued writing up new conversions. This weekend I concentrated on writing up conversions from Fallout. I wrote up the Deathclaw, glowing, the Mirelurker King, Bostonian, as well as the Nova Hound. I even included last Tuesday a monster I named the Demon Virus.

Yes I will attempt to write up a new creature each day of the weekend, starting with Friday, but there will probably be weekends that I miss due to other obligations.

And once I have written up 300 conversions, they too will become a single book for sale. It won’t be long now, believe me!

Friday saw the posting of a short story called ‘Boarding Action. This was a challenge to me, as I have never written from the First Person Narrative style before, and it is also a purely military SF short. It was fun, and I will be returning to this in the future. Might even write a novel with the characters.

Stay tuned.

I realized I made a mistake… I was supposed to post the second fantasy story I wrote, this one called ‘Choices’. I will end up posting that next Friday and then the third fantasy story a week after that. The third one is called ‘Waking Nightmare’.

There is also the zombie story I wrote for my brother in law, but I don’t feel that it is ready to be posted. I really need to go back and re-write it and make some serious changes to the story before I feel it will be good enough.

This week on D-infinity live, the boys discussed Africa! I really wish I could find the time to be able to join them… but with my training on Thursdays, it’s all but impossible.

Skirmisher also published Dwarven paper mini’s

No new novels this week, but hopefully I’ll make up for it next weekend with two.

I did have a chance to watch one movie this weekend. It was called 13 Sins. A very twisted movie where a man on his last legs is offered a chance to participate in a ‘game’. It has thirteen parts, and each one is harder than the last, and the payout is greater as well.

The catch is that he can drop out at any time, but he forfeits all his winnings and has to face the consequences for his actions.

Suspenseful, and downright gory, but really worth the time to watch.

I did pick up a new RPG yesterday, but I have not had a chance to read or even look at it yet. A friend wants me to assist in a project he is working on for Savage Worlds, so I got the deluxe version. This book cost only $15 so it was not a huge investment on my part. Once I have a chance to go over the rules, I’ll post my thoughts on it at a later date.

Should I pick up the latest edition of Runequest? Should I pick up the soon to be released original edition? Who knows. I do collect books after all, especially RPGS.

Anyhow that is it for this week. Yes the blog is a little shorter than the past few, but considering the past couple of blogs were a lot longer than my typical blog, it makes up for the occasional short one like this.

I hope that everyone is recovering well from the holidays and that you’re not too depressed that it’s still winter and cold (well relatively speaking, depending on where you live!).

See you next week!
