More Writing, More Conversions and a Brief Visit to the Calgary Horror Con

I wish I could say that I’m about to change my typical pattern when it comes to writing my blog, but I would be lying to you. It’s going to be the same old, same old.

This week saw me finish my 11th short story called ‘School of Hard Knocks’. It was quite fun to write and was one of the most combat heavy stories that I have written to date for this particular series.

Also I have started work on the 12th story. This one is called ‘Traders’. I don’t really like the title all that much, so if I can think of something a little better I will end up changing it. I hope to have if finished by the time I start work on my next blog.

I had two more stories that I had wanted to write. The first one was entitled ‘Challenge’ and it was going to be probably at least fifty percent longer than my typical shorts. The basic idea was that another monastery was going to come to the monastery of the Five Animals and challenge them for control. Specifically one of the students was out to get Jaeger.

After talking to my best friend over burgers (gotta love Fat Burger!) about my upcoming sequel and the two stories that I had intended on writing, I do believe that I’ve ended up having a change of heart. Or at least I think I have.

See, the plan was to start writing the direct sequel to ‘Sword of Kos: Dark Inheritance’ this month.  I sort of had the basic plot already thought out and after I finished my series of shorts, I was going to start.

Well thanks to Jamal, I have decided to take ‘Challenge’ and really expand upon it as well as the story behind Master Farthis (he was featured as the blog image last week) and without giving away too much, Jaeger’s mother.

I honestly believe that after I am finished my remaining two stories that I will begin work on this sequel instead. Of course I set up quite a bit in the epilogue but it will not be difficult to make sure that what I set up there will be incorporated into this newly planned sequel.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing that I can be so easily swayed from one project to another? Maybe so, then again maybe not. I guess it all depends on the individual view when it comes to this.

As for my Role playing work in general, I decided to take a little bit of a break this week when it comes to posting my Wisdom from the Wasteland issues to Bookforge. The main reason is that I guess there is no major hurry to get them all posted until after Michael Varhola returns from his trip overseas. That will probably be in September.

And that also means that new issues will start coming out once again after a couple of months hiatus. So… Yay!

However this weekend has been quite productive. I have posted two new conversions over the past two days –the Cassaobries – better known as Lady Cassandra O’Brien  from the Doctor Who Character Encyclopedia (several of those will be used), and Basilisk from the Spider-Man Character Encyclopedia. I intend to farm the every living crap out of that book!

Tomorrow I will be posting not one but two conversions from Dragon Age: Origins and I will be writing up the Snu-Snu’s – inspired by Futurama. That particular conversion will be posted on Tuesday.

As much as I would have liked to have been able to watch a DVD or three this week, I was simply too busy with life and all the usual things – screw it, I lied. I was too busy writing when I wasn’t training. I really want to get all the stories written so that I can start work on my sequel that I mentioned earlier.

However, I have every intention of picking up Season 1 of Orphan Black. Too many of my friends have watched the series and rave on how great it is. One, the young artist named Alfonso Maesa who did my cover and the interior art for ‘Sword of Kos: Dark Inheritance’ even did some fan art for it. So I decided that I would use his picture to help promote him, my blog, and the show. I had hoped to get it today, but no joy. I’ll see if I can find it tomorrow.

And speaking of tomorrow, I have every intention of going to see ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. So far I have not heard a single bad thing about this show and I have to admit that I am quite excited to check it out.

Oh I finished a book earlier this week called Parasite by Mira Grant. Now what I am about to say is as contradictory as hell, but it’s the truth. Listening to the novel I was kept interested and my attention did not wander at all. I absorbed the book completely. It is a rather disturbing but interesting tale about how scientists genetically engineered a tape-worm to become an ‘intestinal bodyguard’. In other words, this disgusting parasite would guard the body against disease and other ailments.

Now this is where I become contradictory. I simply did not like the book. Despite the fact that it held my attention, I found that I was eagerly waiting for it to come to a conclusion. Maybe it was because I really did not like the characters? That’s probably why. Will I continue with the trilogy? Highly unlikely.

This is typically where I would start to express my views upon one subject or another. In all honesty I really could not think of anything to talk about this week. Maybe next week there will be something for me to say, but for now, nada.

Although I will take this opportunity to discuss the Calgary Horror Con that I attended for a few hours yesterday.

It has been going now for I do believe four years. This year there was quite a few actors from various horror movies. Really though the only two that I recognized were C. Thomas Howell, from the excellent horror movie ‘The Hitcher’. Make sure that you watch the original from 1986 and don’t bother with either remake.

He was friendly enough and did not even attempt to push me into buying an autograph or anything like that. We talked briefly about the remakes and how terrible they were compared to the original. No it was not kissing ass, it was simply a fact!

The other actor is named Sean Whalen. I know him best from ‘People Under the Stairs’ (a really underrated horror movie) and Twister. Again, talked briefly when he complemented me on my armor (yes I dressed up hoping that he guy who dressed as the alien last year would be there).

But I found that the attendance for the few hours I was there yesterday was really lacking compared to the previous year. So much so that the organizer asked anyone who was following him on Facebook to lend a hand and share the con on their pages.

If you’re into horror, I’m sure that you would have enjoyed it. They had quite a few vendors selling their wares, and the actors seemed to be doing quite the brisk business as well, so I wish nothing but the best for the organizers for future cons.

Still there was not really all that much to catch my interest there. Will I attend next year? Yeah more than likely, even for a single day. I guess it all depends on who they have as guests showing up. Last year there were four that I was quite interested in meeting. This year… not a one.

Although I had a great conversation about martial arts and stunts with the actor and stunt man – Randall Archer from ‘The Collection’. Should have gotten my picture with him. Ah well. I do intend on picking up the DVD though and watching it. He convinced me to do so.

And on that note I believe that it is time for me to sign off for another week. And like I do every week, I would like to invite my readers to like my personal Facebook page, and maybe follow me on Twitter if you would feel inclined.

Until next time, peace!
