Starfinder: Autonomous Mobile Swords (AMS) Version 2.0

See this content in the original post

This is the second version of the AMS to have been discovered. In some ways the version 2.0 is considered to be less of a threat than the version 1.0, but in others, it can be far more deadly. Unlike the original version, this AMS always takes on the appearance of a teen or youngster, who is lost and very much afraid.

There are hundreds of different models of the version 2.0. Some are male or female, different humanoid races (although they do typically take the appearance of the dominant species where they were deployed). Many are found carrying children’s toys, particularly stuffed animals.

When the AMS version 2.0 encounter groups of humanoids, they will not attack outright, especially if they are outnumbered. Instead they will use their natural guile and attempt to insert themselves into the group, acting for all intent and purposes as the children or teens they appear as.  They will wait until the opportune time in order to strike, typically if the group has been split up or happens to be letting their guard down, like when preparing to rest.

They are more intelligent than the version 1.0 and as such can talk, react, answer questions (although they will typically lie), and even act like the youngster they are emulating.

Like the original version 1.0, these are fully capable of repairing damage they have sustained, but once they have been destroyed, that is it, they cannot recover when reduced to zero hit points. They are also capable of creating version 1.0, but require only half the time to do so, and they are able to create version 2.0 as well.

The two versions do not mix often, typically staying with their own kind. The main reason for this is if they are seen together and not attacking one another, any encountering them would instantly become suspicious and the AMS would lose the surprise advantage.

Finally, the version 2.0 are fully capable of using any weapons they happen to encounter, although they will typically use the built-in weaponry, such as their exceedingly nasty bite. They can also extend talons through the tips of their humanoid-like fingers, inflicting deadly wounds.

Usually they will only use ranged weapons when the gig is up, taking the weapons from any targets they have managed to kill in order to strike at a range.
