Ragnarok: Age of Wolves Bonus Material - Barrowlands Playset Material - Warbands!

Barrowlands-tomb-detail_0.JPG

In Ragnarok: Age of Wolves, a warband might consist of a Hero rank named character as the leader, a few companions who might also be Hero or Elite in rank, as well as as many as a twenty or more followers, monsters, and lesser personalities. One of the difficulties with a miniatures game is that it can be difficult, time consuming and expensive to assemble the horde of miniatures you need to play. RAW makes this easier by encouraging play with whatever minis you already own.

In Ragnarok: Into the Barrowlands, the warbands are MUCH smaller - generally between four and seven figures - which represent the core group that a hero recruits to take into the cramped confines of the Barrows themselves. In regard to getting the figures together to play, this makes it faster, and more economical. If you can find four or five figures to play, well, you aren't really trying are you.

But if you need some help, here it is: Skirmisher Publishing has a bundle of roughly 200 Cardstock characters - monsters, humans, and more, for a terrific Price! You can make up warbands, populate your barrows, with only a minor investiment, a printer and some scissors.

RItB plays with more than the traditional two players/ sides. Depending on the size of your play surface, you can play with between three and six warbands each competing to rifle the Barrowlands looking for treasures and glory! Each player can create a warband, based on the figures available (or those in the print and play bundle). Many of the heroes included in the default playset are from the core RAW rules, sometimes with minor alterations in the case of spellcasters (mostly in regard to the spells they have). The War Deck has all of the core characters, monsters and followers, in card form, which is really handly. You can assemble your warband using these cards, including the spell cards for your mage (if you warband has one - which is a good idea). That way, all your reference material is right in front of each player, and you don't really need to refer to the RAW Core book as much while you play.

In keeping with that, I have attached a pdf of cards that I made up of NEW characters, and followers, not found in RAW Core. Some have been seen before in previous posts, others are fresh out of the pages of Ragnarok: The Great Winter, the roleplaying game we arre currently developing! I used a card-making program that is free to use online: www.godeckyourself.com. It is alittle wonky, so you need to exercise patience when using it. But if you don't feel like working out card formats for yourself, it is a godsend. In any event, the attached pdf is just print and cut out - all the card-making has already been done for you.

Each warband in the playset so far plays differently: Bergjotnar (stone giantblood) are tough, and cna call on the aid of an earth elemental, while the Nord rely on their shieldwall and their kinship to remain true and strong. The Outlaws are fast and shooty, and really there just to get the goods and get out, while the Trollborn are there as much for the feast as for the glory! The Wyrmfostren (or Ormlatr) are after the gold, and have a flying model to help seek it out, but though tough, they have no mage, making do with a fair amount of firebreathing instead. The Ulfhednar are fast and deadly, but a little fragile - fortunately their mage, Vald Wolfwarder can beef himself up and also heal his allies. And the Huldrfolk, seeking after the artifacts of power, care little for the gold men hold so dear.

Of course, with what you have in these three posts, and RAW Core, you can make your own warbands. Also, included in the pdf are several cards for undead warriors with which to stock the Barrowlands.
