New Mutant Monday Series Two #32 - Gesshirui Kao

gesshirui-kao.jpg

This strange rodent-like mutant is very common in the ruins that dot the wastelands. It is assumed the beast is descendent from the common rat, and it shares many traits with the rodent. The average specimen is about two feet in length, with a hairless tail that is nearly three feet long. Typically the females are the larger of the species, sometimes growing up to three feet in length. Males weigh about ten pounds, the females can reach twenty. They are lean and muscular, never showing any signs of fat. The paws are dextrous with opposing thumbs, allowing the creature to grasp and even use tools and items, as well as manipulate objects.

What those who encounter the beasts find most disconcerting is the head. The face is hairless, and has a distinct human-like visage. This has led many in the wastes to believe these are in fact the mythological were-rats that were prevalent in so much fantasy literature. Although the beasts have a slight resemblance to such creatures, they are not shape-shifters. Nor can they turn others into members of their own species through a bite or scratch. These creatures are barely what one would consider to be sentient. Certainly they are more intelligent than typical animals, and can even learn a few words in the local dialect, but for the most part they have the intellectual capability of a three year old.

Note this entry includes a new mutation writeup as well.

As the attention of most of us in the tabletop hobby is focused on the big gaming convention, Origins in Columbus, Ohio. The rest of us gamers, especially in the Greater Houston area is gearing up for Comicpalooza. I am so pleased that this convention is really making an effort to build up the tabletop division. Comicpalooza gives us gamers panels and lots of space for what we love most – gaming! In times past, a good majority of local game shops are in attendance in the vendor area and I expect the same this year. I know my wallet will be in danger, because I can’t go to an event like this without buying something or something(s) as is usually the case.

As I am very active in the local gaming scene, I am looking forward to seeing friends and acquaintances I’ve met at various Meetup groups. I also look forward to making new acquaintances as is usually the case because gamers like to meet and get to know other gamers. My excitement is building each day as Comicpalooza is fast approaching. For those of you who are new to the gaming scene, this event is the perfect opportunity to experience new games and meet others who share your passion for games.

I am excited to see what surprises are in store for the first d-Infinity Independent Game Awards. I am always on the lookout for games that work well with families because gaming is a family affair for me and my family. Although, my wife and children may not love it as much as I, they are still always up for a good game, which has become a way for us to spend time together as a family.

While at the “con”, I hope to catch a few of the panels and maybe, just maybe get a chance to play a session of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. I am totally excited about that.

So, I hope you are gearing up for a fun and exciting experience this year and I know I will see many of you there.

Miklos Fitch has always loved games, from board games to PC games. He received his first board game at 10 years old and from there his passion has never stopped. Now he plays the new modern games with his family as much as he can. If you want to contact him about board games send an email to mfitch0967@gmail.com.
