Special Abilities

Land Vulnerability (Ex): The Elasmosaurus is loath to do so, but it will occasionally travel on land. When it is on land, its speed drops dramatically and its EAC and KAC are both reduced by 5 points. Finally it cannot use its torpedo launcher on land.

Swallow whole (Ex): The creature is able to potentially swallow whole any creature it bites which is at least one category size smaller. See page 156-157 of the Alien Archive for more information.

Torpedo launcher (Ex): The Elasmosaurus has been fit with a turreted Torpedo launcher on its back. As a standard action, the creature can launch up to two torpedo’s per round. They must have a target to home in on, otherwise they simply sink to the ocean bottom. The torpedo has a speed of 120 ft. and is an area effect weapon. Once it is within 20 feet of its target, it will explode, causing 3d10+11 points of plasma damage (Electrical and flame). Anything caught in this explosive radius is allowed a Reflex save (DC 18) for half damage. Note this weapon can only be used in the water and is useless on land.  The creature has enough ammunition for 20 shots.

The Vesk rarely have to engage in open combat on the water, and as such they only have a handful of genetically modified dinosaurs to use in such a circumstance. One of these creatures is the Elasmosaurus – a terrifying predator from their home world and one which has been discovered in the fossil records of many other plants in the galaxy.

They did little to augment this particular predator, except to add a turreted torpedo launcher, and upgrade the eyes with both a laser and dark-vision capability.

The average creature weighed in excess of 10,000 pounds, and was easily 30 feet in length, although due to the creature’s exceptionally long neck, it could reach out to over 40 feet to attack prey. The creature has mottled green-blue flesh, allowing it a degree of natural camouflage in the water.

Many foes which engage the creature are shocked to discover just how far it can stretch its neck in order to bite and swallow prey. Sometimes they are able to get out of range of the bite and think that they might be out of danger only to have the Elasmosaurus shoot them with its powerful built-in lasers.

Then there are those who think that they can simply head further inland, or on board whatever watercraft they are on in order to escape the monster. This tactic often fails as even though it is very ungainly on the land, the Elasmosaurus is still perfectly capable of moving on land, although it is far slower and less graceful.
