Conversions, Conversions, and More!

The days are shorter, the air colder, and the trees are shedding their leaves in anticipation of the cold winter that is so close. I can’t complain, we’ve been enjoying warmer than usual weather for this time of year and supposedly we’re in for a warm winter.

Yeah, and last year they had predicted we would be facing one of the coldest and worst winters on record. I guess that held true for some places, but certainly not here in Calgary. It was one of the most pleasant winters I can recall over the past ten years or so.

Also today marks my 23rd anniversary of marriage to my lovely wife. We’ve built a great life for ourselves and have beaten all obstacles and odds to reach this point in our lives. So few of my friends ever supported my decision to marry my beautiful girl all those years ago. What is so funny is pretty much every single person I know has been divorced, some multiple times, and yet we’re still going strong.

My relationship with that woman is one in a million.

Happy anniversary baby! I love you and I’m not afraid to say it or show it!

So here we go, the projects are still being worked on, especially the weapon compilation book. I am adding new material nearly every day to it, as I finished adding all the previously published material, as well as all the bonus material.

I still hope to send both this book and the harvesting book at the same time to Michael, but we shall see. I’m thinking to send the harvesting book because he probably won’t want them at the same time, and yet I don’t know which I want to see first!

I’ll probably just send the harvesting book. After all, a significant portion has already been edited.

I’ve also managed to post yet another New Mutant Monday critters, the Scrappers and Cannon Fleas, and of course two more will be posted tomorrow. And I’ve been posting a fairly steady stream of new conversions as well, in my hopes to hit that magical 300 conversion number. This week I posted Tundra Beast (from Creepshow), Kaalium (from Moontrap), Gas Zombies (from Wyrmwood) and just today the Pauna (from the 100).

Expect more every week from me, including two updated monsters (I won’t say which movie, as it would spoil it!), and at least one more from The 100, and then I’ll be working on some from Defiance.

Speaking of that great show, I was sorely disappointed to learn it had been cancelled. At least there wasn’t a major cliffhanger at the end of season 3 like some other shows that have been given the axe. Such a pity, I really did like that series.

Chapter 39 of Buck Who? Went up on time, and currently I wrapped up chapter 42. I figure I have 2, maybe 3 more chapters to write and the epic novel will be complete. I’ve had at least one person ask about the book and hinted he would have liked to see it become a series.

Well I have lots of writing to do, other stories that I would like to write, but all I can say with certainty is I’m not finished with these characters, not by a long shot.

I just want to revisit my zombie apocalypse survivors first, then get reacquainted with my fantasy martial artists and write about 5 short stories before I return to the PA world I created for that novel.

This week the boys had yet another good episode of D-Infinity live, in which they discussed playtesting. As always, please check it out and enjoy the ramblings of our usual hosts!

Skirmisher also republished 100 Oddities of a creepy old house, with re-edited content and new art by Mr. Thrasher! It’s cheap and if you want possible plot hooks or just simple weirdness to add flavor to your game, pick it up!

Now for the part of my blog where I talk about movies and books. This week I watched a couple of DVD’s, the usual direct to video that I tend to enjoy. The first was the fifth installment of the Tremors series. This one is entitled Tremors: Bloodlines and stars Michael Gross, who has been in every movie and the short-lived TV series. It was set in Africa, where a small village come under siege by Ass Blasters and at least one Graboid. Burt Gummer is hired to investigate and deal with the critters.

Kinda dumb, but I still enjoyed it. And Christ on a Crutch I hope I look as good as Gross when I am damned near 70!

The other was a movie called Wyrmwood, which toted itself as being Mad Max meets Dawn of the Dead.

Yeah, right. It was a strange and often amusing zombie tale set in Australia, and it did have a little bit of on the road action, but nowhere near enough to warrant such an catch-phrase. I did find it entertaining however, despite some really dumb shit – still, I laughed more than a few times!

It was a rather long novel, but I finished Kevin J. Anderson’s last novel in the Hellhole trilogy called Hellhole Inferno. As I have grown accustomed to when it comes to his epic SF novels, there is a large body-count and an event which could possibly end the universe. I shall not use any spoilers but I have to say that as usual, I was not disappointed by this trilogy.

One graphic novel I did read however turned out to be a disappointment for me. I remember watching the Fly and Fly two way back in the day and being grossed out by both movies, but still highly intrigued by the premise.

So when I heard about the five issue miniseries called ‘The Fly: Outbreak’ I was interested enough to wait until the compilation was finally released so I could read it in one shot. Alright first things first – the art was actually pretty damn good!

The story however was very confusing. I don’t recall there ever being an issue with the Fly sequel where the genes were more like a disease that could be transferred and as such change people into mutant fly hybrids. I could be wrong though. Secondly, there seemed to be entire scenes missing from the book that left me scratching my head and wondering what the hell did I miss?

Even going back and re-reading the book still left me feeling the same way. They should have added at least another full issue to the story in order to prevent confusion like I felt reading it.

Art was good, story – not so good. I can’t really recommend this graphic novel.

And that pretty much covers this week. A little longer blog than usual, but my readers have come to expect a variation each week.

So until next Sunday, please follow me on Twitter and like my Facebook page.

I hope you are enjoying the fall weather, no matter where you happen to live, and remember – only 9 more weeks until the new Star Wars movie hits the theaters!
