For so many of us, tabletop RPGs provide a much needed outlet to help us us to flex our creativity and share experiences with friends. Gaming is a therapeutic experience that we can all experience together. Realizing the positive impact gaming could have on young people struggling with social development, Adam Davis and Adam Johns of Seattle Washington started Wheelhouse Workshop to help young gamers work through issues and develop social skills.

Following is an interview that editor Michael O. Varhola did with artist, author, and impressario Andy Hopp for d-Infinity Volume #3: Children of the Night! Some of Hopp’s great illustrations also appear with the monster article “Spontaneous Generation” in d-Infinity Volume #1: The Adventure Begins. Andy Hopp is perhaps best known as an artist with a weird, lurid style suggestive of a modern-day Hieronymus Bosch.

I met Gary Gygax for the first time at the short-lived but ambitious Alti-Egos Con in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Easter weekend of 2000, eight years before he died and when he was 61 years old. During that weekend, I had the pleasure of chatting with him a number of times and learning about some of the things that motivated him to create Dungeons & Dragons, the first, debatably the greatest, and certainly the most well-known role-playing game in the world. 

In the four years since entrepreneur John Simons launched Comicpalooza as one-day signing event at a theater in a Houston suburb, it has grown steadily into the biggest and most popular fan convention not just in Texas but in the entire U.S. Southwest. Today, the annual event is geared toward fans of comic books, science fiction, fantasy, video and table top gaming, anime, music and film, and also serves as a trade show and showcase for studios, manufacturers, and publishers associated with those industries. d-Infinity sat down with Simons to find out what prompted him to start Comicpalooza and why it has become so successful in such a short period of time.
