Practical Magic: Repel Insects

William T. Thrasher
Spider? Damn near killed her!
All the little things that bite, sting, creep, and crawl are irritants at worst and bringers of plague and skin rashes at best. From the malaria carrying mosquito to the spider that really, really freaks you out, you're better off keeping bugs a bay, and with this new utilitarian spell, you can! REPEL INSECTS School abjuration; Level bard 1, cleric 1, druid 0, ranger 0, witch 0 Casting Time 1 standard action Components V, S, M/DF (a pinch of lemongrass) Range touch Target creature touched Duration 1 hour/level (D) Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance no This spell wards a creature against insects, arachnids, and other invertebrate vermin. Mundane pests will simply avoid the target. Vermin swarms will not enter a square containing a warded creature, and a warded creature entering the a space occupied by a swarm will find the swarm flowing around her to avoid her presence. This spell does not ward the target against giant insects (e.g., any oversized insect with the word "giant" in its name). Likewise, the effects of this spell immediately end if the target takes any offensive action against a pest or swarm.
