Pittsburgh Troglodytes were formerly Pure Humans and Humans (see Wisdom from the Wasteland issue 4: New Races ) that were exposed to a genetic altering virus. This virus first appeared in the American city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and many scholars figure that it was actually a biological weapon used during the final wars that destroyed civilization. Many of the pure humans who were exposed got sick and then began to devolve into the creatures they are now.

These mutant humans, (also known as Pitt Trogs) share the following physical traits: They’re completely hairless, all body hair having fallen off during the transformation, and they typically walk on all fours. Their bellies become engorged, as if they were filled with food, but this doesn’t hamper the creatures at all. The fingers and toes have developed sharp talons and their teeth have become somewhat pointed. Their height and weight varies from individual to individual, but always falling into what is considered to be the pure human normal range.

The creatures move quite quickly on all fours and are capable of moving on any surface at the same speed. Their legs develop thick muscles that allow them to jump up to 30’ straight in the air or twice that vertically.

In combat, the creatures prefer to attack from a height advantage, pouncing on their victims to bite and rake with their claws. Although their natural weapons are formidable, the creatures themselves are not too hardy and can be quite easily dispatched.

What makes the creatures dangerous to Pure Humans and humans is that their bite and claw attacks can infect an individual with the virus that will eventually transform them into a Pitt Trog. Most likely because of the genetic variant found in Mutant Humans genome has rendered them completely immune to this virus.

When a Pure Human or Human is exposed to this virus they must make a save versus poison. If the save fails they become infected with the virus and are doomed. The transformation takes several weeks to complete. First the target develops scabs all over its body and the hair begins to fall out. They find that they develop a taste for raw meat and blood.

By the end of the first week, they are completely hairless and the scabs become so painful that wearing clothing is completely intolerable and they find that only by going naked do they find any relief from this condition.

During the second week, the victim is overcome by incredibly painful leg cramps and the victim finds that they have lost most of their manual Dexterity. The finger and toe-nails fall out and the talons begin to emerge. By mid-week the cramps disappear and they find that they have incredible strength in their legs, allowing them to jump impressive distances.

The third and final week of the transformation is the
