Cave Dwellers is the generic name given to a species of Human Mutant that is prevalent in the mountain regions of the world. These creatures were originally survivors who found themselves trapped deep underground and despite the odds, managed to survive and produce offspring.

Physically, these mutants are somewhat smaller than most Pure Humans , usually standing around 5' in height and weighing about 100 pounds, with the females being somewhat smaller than the males. They have either pure white, slightly grey or mottled skin tones, which vary from individual to individual. They are also completely hairless and the ears have a slight point pointed shape and angle back, very similar to that of a bat. Also even though they have eyes, these creatures are completely blind.

Wasteland scholars are unsure as to why, but out of all the tribes that have been discovered beneath the surface, not a single tribe has retained a cohesive language. They communicate through simple grunts, growls, clicks and the like, despite the fact that they have human level intelligence.

These creatures live together in small communities, which shun all technology and live in conditions that are extremely primitive. Their lairs go on for thousands of feet, and can change elevations numerous times.  There is always a source of water to be had, and at least one or more ways to access the surface, so the creatures have a way of hunting.

Each community is controlled by a single alpha. This can be a male or female, and is always the largest and strongest of the tribe, and for that matter, the most ruthless as well.

These creatures don't take single mates. The females share the males at will, and offspring produced are always raised by the entire tribe. The creatures have an average human life span although most die well before their third decade due to the extremely dangerous environment they call home.

They hunt signally or in packs, showing un-nerving knowledge of their lairs and the surrounding territory and have an almost supernatural cunning in stalking and ambushing their prey. Although they are blind, they use sound in order to hunt and help them navigate their surroundings.

These mutants eat only meat, and they prefer (some scholars say need) Pure Human , Human (see Wisdom from the Wastelands issue 4: New Races for more information) and Mutant Human flesh in order to survive. Because of this, the creatures will always set up ambushes in trails and paths through the mountains in which they make their homes, or will travel great distances in order to hunt from small or isolated communities in order to satisfy their hunger for flesh. If their preferred prey is not available to hunt, these creatures will feed off the flesh of other animals, and even one another (the weakest always falling prey to their stronger brethren).
