Aquans are a humanoid mutation that has adapted to life in the oceans. These creatures are said to have evolved from a single individual who was supposedly around since the Victorian Era, who was at one time a pure human but after exposure to a strange (which some of the Aquan’s revere as a god) creature that transformed him into the first of the race.

That is, of course, pure speculation.

Physically, Aquan’s have a typical humanoid shape, although their skin is quite slick and smooth, much like that of a dolphin or whale. Both male and females possess gills that allow them to breathe water and webbed fingers and toes.

The skin coloration varies from individual to individual, although many ‘families’ of the Aquan’s have distinct patterns that set them apart from the rest of their kind. Typically though, the skin color is blue to grey, with females tending to more magenta hues. Males are completely bald, and yet females are capable of growing full head of hair, which like the skin coloration, varies from person to person, although more exotic colors are common (blue, magenta, sea green etc.)

As a society, the Aquan’s are a highly intelligent, scholarly race. They are always on the lookout for lost knowledge and are more than likely willing to trade or purchase lost text, computer disks or anything that can help them in their never ending pursuit of knowledge.

Despite the fact that they are very intelligent and would prefer talk over combat, when it comes down to it, the Aquan’s are more than willing to pick up arms to defend themselves or a cause in which they believe strongly.

They are expert in hand to hand combat (and many practice ancient martial arts with skill levels rivalling the masters of the old world.), and many are expert shots with ranged weapons. They also use their superior knowledge to give them a natural edge over any who would try to harm them.

The Aquan’s make their homes typically on the shores of large lakes or the coastal regions. Although they are aquatic by nature, the fact that they seek out knowledge in the form of books and other items that are hampered or ruined by exposure to water, they have chosen a life on land.

Their homes are very neat and tidy like their minds, and always have a large pool, pond, or even tank in which they spend at least half of the day submerged in water to stay healthy.

Although these creatures don’t mate for life, they do spend years together with a single partner. These partners are usually chosen based on mutual interests and intellect, although some females prefer to take mates that are experts in martial arts or the ways of war.

Females do not give birth to live young, instead once the female becomes pregnant, after one month she expels a single shark-like egg
